The DC July comic book solicitations has revealed a shocking twist in the July issue of Detective Comics, as a major Batman villain is about to be murdered.

Since Infinite Frontier has started in the series with #1034, Detective Comics has been running a regular backup feature behind the main Batman feature by Mariko Tamaki and Dan Mora. The first back-up was Robin, followed by a Huntress two-parter, then a Lucius Fox/Deb Donovan split, a Penguin spotlight and then a look at the origin of the new villain, the Vile. #1040 sees the Man-Bat take flight in a story by Dan Watters and Kyle Hotz.

The story is described as rocking the world of Gotham through the murder of a major Batman villain. The title of the story is "The Night [REDACTED] Was Killed." This is, of course, an homage to the classic 1978 David Vern Reed/John Calnan Batman storyline, "Where Were You on the Night Batman Was Killed?," which ran from Batman #291-294 and featured Batman's villains coming together in front of "Judge" Harvey Dent to try to take credit for the seeming murder of the Dark Knight. That whole story turned out to be a trap by the very much living Batman to find out who murdered a man dressed as the Caped Crusader, but time will tell what kinds of twists and turns this upcoming Man-Bat story features.

  • When the cops brought Bruce Wayne in for questioning last month, a giant money-man with a bazooka and a mustache for days blew the place up. So what's that mean for Gotham's ex-favorite son? Well, it means Bruce Wayne has to spend a weekend in lockup! Can Batman's alter ego go the weekend without getting stabbed? (I suppose to be fair, he's stabbed on the reg as Batman anyway...)
  • PLUS: A major Batman villain meets his death in a story that will rock the world of Gotham City in a monstrous way! Do not miss: The Night [REDACTED] Was Killed by Dan Watters and Kyle Hotz!
