The following contains spoilers for Shadow War: Omega #1, available now from DC Comics.

Having previously been killed in a duel with Talia al Guhl, DC's Deathstroke is back from the dead -- only, this time, there's something that appears to be a bit off about the character.

Shadow War: Omega #1 comes from writer Joshua Williamson, artists Stephen Segovia, Mike Henderson and Howard Porter, colorist Hi-Fi and letterer Troy Peteri. Toward the end of the issue, Deathstroke's body is being carried to a Lazarus Pit by some members of the Secret Society of Villains. Deathstroke/Slade Wilson suffered a fatal blow to the stomach when fighting Talia al Guhl in Robin #14 by Williamson, Roger Cruz, Norm Rapmund Luis Guerrero and Peteri. The resurrection doesn't take long and Slade quickly rises from the pit; however, given the entire pit turns black and Deathstroke arrises still missing one eye, something in the process appears to have gone wrong.

While the members of the Secret Society of Villains are quick to point this out, Deathstroke wastes no time getting down to business. He's not interested in going after Batman or Talia, or even in preparing for a crisis event; rather, Deathstroke tells the villains that he has "a new contract to finish" and "we're killing everyone."

Deathstroke's resurrection and sudden urge to cause mass carnage sets him up as a major antagonist for DC's Dark Crisis. Spinning off of the Justice League's death in Justice League #75, the major crossover event sees heroes like Jon Kent, Wally West and others protect the planet from oncoming threats in the wake of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and other members' absence.

The remaining heroes are left to protect the world from an onslaught of violent attacks by DC’s greatest villains! Can the legacy heroes step out of the shadows of the classic heroes to form a new Justice League? And will that be enough to stop a darkness greater than anything they’ve ever faced from destroying everything? Don’t miss out on the first issue of the blockbuster event of the summer!" Williamson also previously teased the second issue of the series is almost entirely a fight scene between Nightwing and Deathstroke.
