Magic: The Gathering announced that hyper-popular battle royale shooter Fortnite will be the next theme for an upcoming Secret Lair set.

Announced during the Magic Showcase 2021 digital event, the crossover set will feature a variety of recognizable imagery pulled from Epic Game's Fortnite. The collaboration will receive two Secret Lair drops that aim to capture the in-game locations of the Island as well as the iconic cast of characters that do battle upon it. The official announcement blog teases that the Secret Lair will feature "reprints like you've never seen them before—though you're on your own to practice your dance moves."

The reveal of the Fortnite Secret Lair follows suit with Wizards of the Coast's promise that Magic: The Gathering will be exploring the Universes Beyond. These different aspects of the multiverse will be expanded on through sets of limited-edition cards that will only be sold for a short period of time. Most of these sets including reimaginings of the game's most iconic cards redesigned in the style of another franchise. Once the purchase period of the Secret Lair closes, they will not be sold again making them incredibly popular for collectors.

Earlier this year, Magic: The Gathering confirmed other sets in the Secret Lair collection would be inspired by Stranger Things, Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40K.

"Magic is the core of our business and the brand has never been bigger," said Chris Cocks, President of Wizards of the Coast. "From partnerships with pop culture touchstones like Street Fighter, Fortnite and The Lord of the Rings to a Netflix animated series launching next year – there has never been a better time to be a Magic fan."

Beyond the reveal of the new Secret Lair drops, fans of the collectible card game still have a great deal to look forward to. An animated series based on the lore of Magic: The Gathering is currently in development and will star Brandon Routh (Superman Returns, Arrow, The Flash). A novel set within the every expanding Magic: The Gathering universe was also announced. Written by acclaimed fantasy author Django Wexler, the currently unnamed book will act as a companion piece to the animated series and will release alongside the Netflix production.

While Wizards of the Coast has yet to provide any further details on the Fortnite crossover, fans can expect to hear more information in the near future.
