As far as card games go, Magic: the Gathering is one of the most popular and longest-running around. New packs are plentiful and there are always new additions that help keep the game fresh, never letting it become too stale. As such, there is a massive following for it, with fans loving the complexity and deep lore of the game and its universe.

Some Magic fans even enjoy it enough to get their favorite fandom inked onto their skin. Some chose the symbols from either packs or cards, while others showed their adoration for certain characters. No matter the choice, some of them look amazing and these are but a sampling of all the great Magic tattoos out there.

10 Symbols Of Power

Clean and crisp are two words that should come to mind when you look at this tattoo. The linework is top-notch, nothing straying out of place, looking just as it should from the game. The way the colors are splashed on like paint or water is exceptional, the effect being far from easy to pull off considering how precise you need to be. The darkness of the black really helps let the other shades explode off the canvas, further enhancing its appeal.

9 Liliana

Lilliana is a human planeswalker from Dominaria who's had a role in much of Magic's mythos, having one of the longer and more in-depth backstories to boot. It's no wonder why someone would choose to get this exquisite tattoo of her visage on their skin. It has a level of detail in it that you often only see in more typical drawn art. Her hair seems to have single strands, and more than just that, the work on her markings is incredible, getting it as close to her in-game appearance as possible.

8 Ashiok

Few characters look as cool as Ashiok does, truly resembling something that you'd see in your nightmares. The way the top half of her head is only two horns is chilling, smoky shadows lingering near it, only furthering that feeling.

The artist did a great job capturing that as she looks as unfeeling and detached as a being of her standing should. The ridges in the horns are nicely done, as is the erosion of her skin near that area.

7 Magical

Sleeves can be hit or miss, depending on how it's done. In some cases, there can be too much going on in them, making everything look like a jumbled mess and taking away from the art. This isn't one of those cases as the work here flows very well while being beyond eye-catching. The red and blue colors pop among the darker shades, drawing your eyes there first. The fact that it isn't loaded with characters and willingly has emptied colored space helps, letting things breathe.

6 Demonic Tutor

Demons are always going to be a favorite when it comes to tattoos, and Magic is no exception. They are instantly recognizable and don't require nearly as much explanation to observers as some others on this list. The stoic nature of their face, as well as the pentagram etched onto their forehead, are fitting. The nicest touch may be the demonic writing on the tome gripped in their hand, giving it a level of authenticity. The way his pauldron curls into a horn is pretty cool looking, too.

5 Pithing Needle

A direct side by side with the card in question shows what nice work this tattoo of the Pithing Needle is. The entire card gives a Day of the Dead vibe to it, from the vibrant colors to the use of a skull.

The way the flower and hilt of the dagger blend together give the appearance of the skull wearing a hat. Etching on the blade is one of those little things that could have been ignored, but its addition adds to the authenticity of the tattoo.

4 Black Lotus

When done right, colors can take a tattoo to another level. While there's nothing wrong with black and white, this piece wouldn't have had the same effect without the color. The purple with the shadings of black looks beautiful, showing how the plant could lure you in. Once it does, you end up like the skeleton beneath it, dead before you can react. It's understandable why Paulypiff90 likes doing these pieces because they do a great job on them, blending two pieces of art into one beautifully.

3 Mana

The background of this looks like something you'd see from either the Buddhist or Hindu religions. While that takes up the most space on the tattoo, it's far from the best part. No, that belongs to the island in the center. The level of detail on it is so good considering what a small space they had to work with. You can see the rocks, sand, and trees clearly, nothing looking that smudgy. Even the water manages to have ripples inside of it, something bigger pieces don't always excel in.

2 Guilded

The freshness of this tattoo certainly helps with its appeal— nothing looking faded yet, an issue with many mutli-colored tattoos. Pictured are the major guilds within the universe, each having a very striking symbol to call their own. While smaller, they are all detailed nicely, fitting perfectly within their emblems. What's nice is that none of them share the same color scheme, despite there being ten of them present. The way they are presented makes it seem like they are needed artifacts to release some great power.

1 Elesh Norn

She's a Praetor of the white faction and another creature that looks like it'd both be in your nightmares and the depths of hell. The way her muscles are visible is creepy, the entire body looking like it was torn apart and put back together— apt considering her views on the world. The artist did a great job of really capturing that grotesque feeling her body has. The way her head is a giant blade feels reminiscent of Pyramid Head from the Silent Hill video game series, fitting considering he too is a creature of nightmares.
