Magic Mike's Last Dance star Channing Tatum can't lie -- he thinks he could out-strip his Magic Mike co-star Joe Manganiello.
Tatum dropped the bombshell while taking a lie detector test for Vanity Fair. The actor, who plays the titular dancer Mike Lane, was asked whether he thought he was a better stripper than Manganiello, who appears alongside him in Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL. "One hundred percent," Tatum replied. "We're different -- different classes of strippers. When you look in the dictionary next to the perfect specimen of a man, probably Joe Manganiello is one of the bodies that pops up because he's just -- he's kind of weirdly flawless. But as far as stripping goes, I would put myself above him dance-wise. Sorry, Joe."
Tatum was then asked whether he thought he was a better stripper than Jennifer Lopez, who put her pole-dancing prowess on full display in 2019's Hustlers. "Am I a better stripper than her? I'm going to say yeah," he said. "I would go harder if I was stripping against her. I'm just saying I'm going to take it to J. Lo's front door ... I don't know if I’m going to win, but I like my chances, depending on who the audience is." Moviegoers attending Magic Mike's Last Dance are sure to get their money's worth, as the film wraps up with a 30-minute dance sequence.
Magic Mike's Last Dance Is Likely the End of the Franchise
Magic Mike's Last Dance is the third film in the Magic Mike franchise after Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL. It follows Mike Lane once again as he gets back into the stripping game after a business deal gone wrong leaves him broke and bartending in Florida. When a wealthy socialite gives him an offer he can't refuse, Mike travels to London, where he finds himself in charge of a hot new roster of talented dancers. Salma Hayek joins Tatum in the cast, as well as Ayub Khan Din, Jemelia George, Juliette Motamed, Vicki Pepperdine, Gavin Spokes, Caitlin Gerard and Christopher Bencomo.
While director Steven Soderbergh confirmed that Magic Mike will likely end as a trilogy, he feels the franchise has spinoff potential. "Right now, this film feels like an end to the Magic Mike series," he said. "I think Channing would probably agree. I don’t know where Mike would go from here. That being said, the avenues that I think have been opened up conceptually and philosophically still leave room to make a movie that exists in the Magic Mike universe."
Magic Mike's Last Dance opens in theaters on Feb. 10. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max.
