As one of the most popular fantasy franchises in the world, Magic: The Gathering is about to receive its own free-to-play MMORPG this year in Magic: Legends.
First announced in 2017, Game Informer has released the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming video game, providing fans with an immersive RPG experience within the high fantasy world of the popular trading card game.
The trailer showcases massive monsters and destructively epic spells as players navigate the world either solo or in the company of friends, unlocking new powers and abilities as they progress.
Developer Cryptic Studios is one of the most prolific MMO developers in North America, having previously developed City of Heroes/Villains, Star Trek Online and Champions Online to critical acclaim. Judging by the gameplay trailer, Magic: Legends looks to be Wizards of the Coast's answer to popular dark fantasy titles like Diablo and World of Warcraft while utilizing the popular tabletop franchise's extensive mythos.
Magic: Legends is developed by Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment. It is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox One and PC sometime in 2020.
