Made in Abyss released a new trailer for its highly-anticiapted second season.

While the first trailer for the new season, which will be entitled Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, served as an introduction to the many new characters that will be joining the fantasy adventure's cast, the latest trailer offers an update on the progress of the series' original band of dungeon crawlers, Riko, Reg and Nanachi. The trailer previews some of the mysterious new areas of the Abyss that the group will explore in the season. The trailer also previews a new storyline focused on Faputa, the "Princess of the Hollows." The new season is still scheduled with a premiere window of this July.

The new trailer was released alongside the announcement that four new cast members will be joining the show: Hiroko Goto (Log Horizon), Kana Ichinose (Darling in the Franxx), Kumiko Saito (Death Note) and Ryota Takeuchi (Haikyu!!). The entire voice cast from the first season, including Miyu Tomita as Riko and Mariya Ise as Reg, will also return to reprise their roles. The second season of the anime is once again being produced at Kinema Citrus, the animation studio that is also behind The Rising of the Shield Hero and Revue Starlight.

Made in Abyss tells the story of Riko, a young girl who lives in a town built around the entrance to the Abyss, a massive hole in the ground that it is filled with ruins left behind by a highly advanced and mysterious ancient civilization. Riko's mother, Lyza, was a famed adventurer who was presumed to be dead after she disappeared one day within the Abyss' dangerous depths. Raised as an orphan, Riko sets off into the Abyss herself after she discovers a message from her long missing parent, which states that she is waiting for Riko on the deepest level of the chasm.
