Sony's upcoming Madame Web film has been shrouded in secrecy and speculation as names like Sydney Sweeney and Dakota Johnson get added to the roster. While it's clear the film will focus on the female heroes and villains of the Spider-Man universe, it's unclear who they could be playing or the size of their roles. And one of the latest additions was Emma Roberts, yet another name in an undisclosed part.

Madame Web is a psychic medium that has attached herself to Spider-Man and his life. Throughout the years, she's provided aid and guidance to Peter and eventually passed on her mantle to another worthy addition. Nevertheless, her presence will likely expand the Spider-Man universe beyond its borders into unknown realms. But the more people join the film, the bigger the chance their roles in the movie could get deciphered before an official announcement. So, who are some likely characters that Roberts could bring to life?

A Gwen Stacy Variant Could Appear in Madame Web

Perhaps the most unexpected choice to potentially join the film, Gwen Stacy has been Peter Parker's love interest and a superhero known as the Ghost Spider. Should Roberts play her in Madame Web, she could be a contender to take the titular character's place. Stacy could also be a friend to one of the other main characters in the film, offering guidance. Roberts has shown that she can play an empathetic individual who's smart and independent, which is necessary for the role of Gwen, especially without Peter Parker in the picture.

Betty Brant May Be a Daily Bugle Reporter in Madame Web

In the comics, Betty Brant was J. Jonah Jameson's secretary and had a brief romantic relationship with Peter Parker. But since then, she's grown into her own after future relationships brought her face to face with the Hobgoblin. Should Brant appear in the film, it would make sense for her role to better fit the journalism role like in Jon Watt's Spider-Man films. Roberts has shown that she's capable of being an A-type personality who would fight for a story the way Brant would and could acclimate to the role. And the character's history would allow her to share screen time with some iconic Spidey villains.

Silver Sable Could Be One of Madame Web's Antagonists

Arguably the most complex character on this list, Silver Sable is a mercenary from Symkaria who, along with her Wolf Pack, maintain her country's economy by taking jobs and hunting down criminals. Because of her ambiguous morality, her choices have also seen her fight and later team up with some of Marvel's heroes. It would be a physical and artistic challenge for Roberts to take on this role as Sable has gone toe to toe with the likes of Spidey. However, Roberts would also have to develop an accent and personality that best fits with Sable. Thankfully, she's proven herself with characters that have shown no mercy and would likely meld well with the role.

Madame Web Can Bring Black Cat Back to the Big Screen

Black Cat from Marvel Comics

Perhaps the most anticipated character on this list, Black Cat, has been trying to claw her way onto the big screen for years. In fact, she's one of the most anticipated additions to the film. Felicia Hardy is a skilled cat burglar who has crossed paths with Spider-Man on more than one occasion. While they've tried their hand at a relationship before, they ultimately reminded friends and allies when Cat wasn't breaking the law. Roberts could bring the energy needed to play the character and would be both an unlikely and welcomed addition to Madame Web.

Julia Carpenter Is a Crucial Character In the Madame Web Mythos

After Cassandra Webb gave up her mantle as Madame Web, the role went to ex-Spider-Woman Julia Carpenter. Since then, Carpenter has aided the Spider-Man family whenever necessary and often offered guidance disguised as blunt snark. Should the film focus heavily on whom the next Madame Web will be, having Carpenter earn the role by its conclusion would be a genius idea. For Roberts, playing Carpenter would allow her to test herself both as a Spider-Woman and later as someone privy to worlds human eyes would never comprehend.
