"Agent Carter" executive producers Tara Butters and Chris Dingess revealed that Madame Masque will be an antagonist for Peggy in the show's second season and that the character will be an actress/scientific genius like Hedy Lamar during an interview with SlashFilm.

"Our villain from the season is very much a Marvel villain that we co-opted a little bit like we did Dr. Fennhoff in the first season," Butters explained.

"We put our spin on her," Dingess agreed.

"I think we've changed the look of her a bit obviously," Butters explained. "We've made her an actress, which is very Hedy Lamar. She was a '40s siren actress who was also a scientific genius, so that's part of what we're mining with this character."

Butters also disclosed that they had cast the role, but they weren't able to say who just yet. "We're not allowed to announce it yet."

As to why they chose Madame Masque, she said, "As much as there are not enough female heroes just on television, I feel like having a female villain is just as equally powerful."

"I also think because she's a female villain, her story informs Peggy's story in a unique way and vice versa," Dingness added.

"Agents Carter" season two is expected to air in January 2016 during "Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s" midseason break on ABC.
