Matthew Weiner has shown how good he is at creating one of the most acclaimed television shows of the past 10 years with the AMC drama Mad Men. But according to Variety, he'll next turn his attention to You Are Here, a long-brewing film described as the writer/director's passion project.
The Gilbert Films comedy has lined up Owen Wilson and Zach Galifianakis to star as a pair of friends on a road trip, with Amy Poehler in talks to co-star as Galifiankis' sister. More specifically, the two pals go on said road trip after Galifiankis' father dies and leaves him with a hefty inheritance.
"This movie has been my passion for eight years, and to see it come together with Owen and Zach and Amy is a dream come true," Weiner said. "I can't wait to get started because the movie is about everything I care about, and I'm tired of reading it out loud to my friends."
Weiner has been writing the script for the past eight years, and is clearly excited to get it off the page an on to the big screen. The Mad Men creator has directed several episodes of that show as well as the 1996 autobio flick called What Do You Do All Day? This is the kind of project Hollywood will be watching to see exactly what Weiner can do with a film, expect it to be a big part of his future in the business.
