"Mad Max: Fury Road" Prequel Comics to Arrive in May

As "Mad Max: Fury Road" hurtles towards theaters, DC Comics imprint Vertigo has announced that it will release an art book and four prequel comics that follow the story of the characters played by Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult in the film.

According to Slash Film, "Mad Max: Fury Road: Inspired Artists" will be released on May 6. This will be a large hardcover book that showcases the artwork of 65 artists who were inspired by "Mad Max," including Cliff Chiang, Stephanie Hans and Lee Bermejo. It will feature action sequences, portraits and more.

The prequel comics will follow a monthly schedule starting on May 20. The first prequel comic, featuring characters played by Hoult and Hugh Keays-Byrne, will be titled "Mad Max: Fury Road: Nux and Immortan Joe" #1, which will be followed by "Mad Max: Fury Road: Furiosa" #1 and finally "Mad Max: Fury Road: Mad Max" #1 and #2. Producer George Miller is on board to co-write these preludes with Nico Lathouris and Mark Sexton; Lathouris co-wrote the film and Sexton was the storyboard and concept artist. They will be joined by interior artists Riccardo Burchielli, Leandro Fernandez, Tristan Jones and Sexton.
