On the weekend that SNL parody skit MacGruber blows up in cinemas, it feels strange to read that the television series it was making fun of, MacGuyver, may follow it onto the big screen.

The movie version of MacGuyver actually got its start first, with New Line Studios buying the rights in March 2009, but while producers the De Laurentiis family took their time putting together the project, MacGruber managed to go from initial pitch to finished product. Now, though, screenwriter Jason Richman has been hired to write the MacGuyver movie, signaling not only some movement but also what kind of movie to expect; Richman's credits include action-comedies like Beverly Hills Cop 4, Rush Hour 3 and Bad Company.
