M3GAN's success has already seen a sequel announced, with M3GAN 2.0 dancing into theaters in 2025. There's endless potential for the sequel in terms of possible directions for the story, and going "bigger and better" is the most obvious option. Such a scope would be similar to one of James Cameron's movie sequels.

Aliens was the follow-up to the science fiction horror film Alien, with the expanded scope explained in the title alone. Much as it involved multiple Xenomorphs, M3GAN 2.0 could do the same with its titular killer robot doll. That would make survival an even greater obstacle, with more M3GANs meaning more ways to die.

James Cameron's Aliens Increased the Fear Factor With More Xenomorphs

The scariness of the first Alien had to do with the sole Xenomorph aboard the Nostromo, as the crew got picked off one by one as the creature lurked in the shadows. These characters were there to operate the tugging ship that had little weaponry. Thus, the crew had nothing to defend themselves against the alien menace. Such a threat wouldn't have been the same in Aliens, which featured a group of soldiers armed to the teeth. Not wanting the creature to be outnumbered, acclaimed director James Cameron did the only logical thing: added more Xenomorphs.

The location of Aliens was filled with Xenomorphs, and even the more action-based tone couldn't escape the general feeling of dread that this caused. The more certainly wasn't the merrier, with the increase in aliens only making them more dangerous, even amid the uptick in guns and weapons to fight them off with. There was even a Xenomorph queen, giving Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley the ultimate rival. It was perhaps the perfect way to up the ante in a sequel, and M3GAN 2.0 would be wise to take note.

M3GAN 2.0 Can Follow Aliens' Lead With More M3GANs

At the end of M3GAN, the robotic doll's AI seemingly hacks into the main character's Alexa app. Thus, it's not out of the question for it to come back and multiply itself in new bodies. There were even other M3GAN's being created by toy developer Funki, with these existing as potential "sisters" for M3GAN. Thus, Cady and Gemma would have to contend with an entire army of the violent plaything, all of which would set out for revenge against the playmate that scorned her.

The original M3GAN could even rebuild herself as "M3GAN Prime," with all the other M3GANs serving and protecting her. That would be similar to the Xenomorph queen in Aliens, showcasing how something that was once a singular problem can become even bigger from a terrifying source. The robot Bruce was even similar to the Power Loader in Aliens, so bringing him back in some capacity would make even more sense. After all, some heavy horsepower would be needed to take down a much stronger M3GAN, and increasing the number of evil dolls is likely necessary for the film's threat to work.

After the first movie, the authorities would likely be on edge and ready for a threat like M3GAN ever attacking the peace. Thus, an army of advanced M3GANs would be the only way Gemma's creation could stand a chance in the second round, as merely one doll could be dealt with easily. Increasing the enemy count worked wonders for Aliens, and given the success of the first M3GAN, it could provide for an even better follow-up.

To see the film that could lead to an Aliens-like sequel, M3GAN is now in theaters.
