Lakeshore Entertainment hopes The Sword cuts a path to the box office. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has announced plan to turn the Image Comics series by Jonathan and Joshua Luna into a feature film.

The series, which ran for 24 issues from 2007 to 2010, follows the adventures of Dara Brighton, a young paraplegic living a normal life until a trio of siblings shows up on her doorstep demanding a special sword. When they don't get it, they murder Dara's family and leave her to die in a house fire that reveals the sword's basement hiding place. Now imbued with superhuman abilities, Dara makes it her mission to track down and kill the siblings.

Lakeshore adds The Sword to a stable of films that includes the Underworld franchise and the upcoming adaptation of I, Frankenstein, which stars Aaron Eckhart and Bill Nighy.
