Lumberjanes, the critically acclaimed BOOM! Studios comic by Noelle Stevenson, Grace Ellis, Brooke Allen and Shannon Watters, has been upgraded to an ongoing series.

Announced as an eight-issue miniseries from the publisher's fledgling BOOM! Box imprint, Lumberjanes centers on five teen girls -- Jo, April, Mal, Molly and Ripley -- who head off to summer camp, only to be faced with monsters in the woods and a mystery that puts the whole world at risk.

"I think there really has been a demand for a book like this," Stevenson told CBR TV last month. "There's been a huge rise in female fans of comic book properties that you can see, where 40 percent of The Avengers audience is female, 40 percent of the attendees of New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con are female, and they're not necessarily going into comic book shops just yet, but the audience is definitely there. I think having a comic that is about girls, by girls, is really important. It's definitely a good comic, it's not just for girls, it's for everybody -- it just happens to have women as creators and women as characters."

Lumberjanes #3 arrives in stores June 11, with covers by Stevenson and Faith Erin Hicks.
