Recently, it came to the attention of even Sebastian Stan and Mark Hamill themselves that fans were looking for Sebastian to play Luke Skywalker, should the opportunity arise. The Mandalorian reintroduced a young Luke to the Star Wars universe, but Mark Hamill is nearly seventy years old.

He could still play Luke, but it’s likely that the franchise would recast the character if they decided to continue having Luke appear in other Star Wars titles. While Sebastian Stan is the obvious frontrunner to take on the role, there are actually quite a few actors who could potentially replace Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.

10 Sebastian Stan Already Looks Just Like Mark Hamill

Luke Skywalker (Sebastian Stan)

At first, people started fan-casting Sebastian Stan as a young Luke Skywalker based exclusively on looks alone. Sebastian Stan strongly resembles Mark Hamill when he originally portrayed Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars original trilogy.

Not only that but, as Sebastian Stan accumulates more and more performances under his belt, he’s proven that he could excellently play a character like Luke. Even if looks were out of the picture, Sebastian Stan has only improved as an actor since he first arrived on the scene, and has the acting chops, by this point, to take on Luke as a role.

9 Taron Egerton Is Like A Talented Chameleon

Taron Egerton in Rocketman

While Taron Egerton may have first rose to prominence in the Kingsman movie series, his appearances since —particularly as Elton John in the film Rocketman— have only shown off just how talented he is.

In fact, many were shocked that Taron Egerton was not even nominated for his performance in Rocketman, especially after he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for the same role. He’s a skilled actor and pretty much a talented chameleon in his own right who would excel in the role of Luke, were it given to him.

8 Tom Holland Has The Right Look To Him

Tom Holland as Todd Hewitt in Chaos Walking.

The reason that people started looking at Sebastian Stan to play Luke Skywalker in the first place was that he resembled Luke already. Like Sebastian Stan, Tom Holland has the right look to him to take on the role of Luke. Not only that, but Tom Holland is a physically skilled actor who could actually pull off the countless impressive Jedi moves that Luke has to do.

Luke is shown doing things like backflipping through the air or somersaulting over Darth Vader —all of which are moves that Tom Holland could actually, conceivably pull off if he were cast in a Star Wars movie.

7 KJ Apa Could Be An Unexpectedly Great Contender

Archie (KJ Apa) from Riverdale

Not many people are looking to KJ Apa to enter the Star Wars universe, but that might make him just the right person to enter the franchise. He has exactly the right look to him, and his role as Archie Andrews in Riverdale has proven that KJ Apa can take anything that life throws at him, including a wild fanbase or a truly chaotic storyline.

KJ Apa is likely looking for a new franchise to take on after Riverdale comes to a close, and refreshing Star Wars might be exactly the way to do that.

6 Penn Badgley Could Fill Mark’s Shoes

Penn Badgley

Penn Badgley may be appearing as a more menacing figure than Luke Skywalker has ever been in You, but that television show has proven that Penn Badgley would still make a great Luke.

Not only does his physical appearance indicate that he’d make a good Luke, but he is consistently an excellent performer on that show. His acting abilities are more towards the darker side of things, but this could even be a good thing for Luke. If he were cast as a young Luke in the Star Wars universe, he could play into the darker temptation side of Luke.

5 Sam Claflin Has A Good Energy

Sam Claflin

In order to portray a character like Luke Skywalker, a performer needs to have a generally optimistic and upbeat air to them. As far as actors go, Sam Claflin has almost the exact right energy to tackle Luke.

Sam is towards the beginning of his career and has played characters along the moral and emotional spectrum. He could handle any level of Luke’s performance, especially if the Star Wars franchise decided to really expand on his individual story. He may be a physically larger guy, but he’d still excel as Luke, ultimately.

4 Ansel Elgort Has Grown Into A Great Actor

Ansel Elgort

Like Taron Egerton, Ansel Elgort has proven himself to be something of a chameleon over the years. Ansel Elgort may have originally gained fame in movies like Carrie and The Fault in Our Stars, but it wasn’t until Ansel appeared in Baby Driver that people realized just how truly skilled as a performer he really was.

After that, viewers noticed that Ansel Elgort may be able to take on any role —even one with as much weight, that would require as much acting ability, as Luke Skywalker does. It might be a lot, but Ansel Elgort just may be capable of tackling it.

3 Dave Franco Could Probably Handle This Role

Dave Franco

The younger brother of James Franco, actor Dave Franco, kicked off his career in mostly comedic roles. While he was known for being James Franco’s brother, he gained a reputation of his own in roles on Scrubs, as well as in Superbad and 21 Jump Street.

After that, he appeared in a number of different roles, proving he was more than just a funny guy comedian. Dave Franco actually had some acting depth to him, and could conceivably take on a role as meaty as Luke Skywalker.

2 Grant Gustin Should Transition To The Movies

Grant Gustin in The Flash

Like KJ Apa, Grant Gustin has been mostly limited to the small screen in recent years. He has starred as the titular character on The Flash since the show began in 2014. Despite this, Grant Gustin was not the one cast as Barry Allen in the DCEU films themselves.

As such, the actor may just be looking for a new franchise to join — the Star Wars franchise could be just that place. He has been unappreciated where he is, apparently. As The Flash comes up on nearly a decade of screen time, it might just be time for Grant to move on to take on Luke Skywalker.

1 Kit Harington Is A Wonderful Hero Type

Kit Harington as Jon Snow

Game of Thrones may have come to a close, but Kit Harington is just at the beginning of his career. He studied professional acting for years before finally rising to prominence, and now he’s proven he’s more than just capable of playing a heroic character —he could really play any character.

This, of course, means that Kit Harington is capable of taking on Luke Skywalker if the Star Wars franchise were looking to replace Mark Hamill. The MCU might be trying to hold onto Kit Harington for the time being, as he is appearing soon in Eternals, but, if he were going to jump ship, Star Wars would be a great place for him to go.
