Riverdale star Luke Perry passed away Monday morning after suffering a massive stroke last Wednesday. The actor was 52.

The executive producers of Riverdale, along with Warner Bros. and The CW, have released an official statement via the network's Twitter account.

“We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry," the statement reads. "A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: An incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family in this most difficult time."

Perry passed away on Monday surrounded by his friends and family after being hospitalized on Thursday.

Perry has starred in The CW's Archie Comics adaptation Riverdale as Archie's father, Fred Andrews, since the series premiere. He is perhaps best known for his role as Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills 90201, a role considered to be iconic by many fans.
