Luke Perry's untimely death on Monday has shaken the many lives he's touched, but no one has been more affected than his own children.

The Riverdale mainstay and father of two recently passed away after complications from a "massive" stroke. Sophie Perry, his 18-year-old daughter, was in Africa doing community development work when she received news of her father's medical emergency. She had been in Malawi since January and flew back to California as soon as she heard the news of his stroke.

"A lot has happened in this past week for me. Everything is happening so fast," she wrote on Instagram. "In the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support. I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I. I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye. So bear with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly."

Sophie was by her father's side along with her 21-year-old brother Jack, mother Rachel Sharp and Perry's fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer, when he passed away.

The Ohio native was rushed from his Sherman Oaks home on Feb. 27 when paramedics got a call about a stroke. After being sedated and kept under observation for five days, Perry died on Mar. 4. He was only 52 years old.

In addition to Perry's children, ex-wife and fiancée, he was reportedly also surrounded by his mother Ann Bennett, stepfather Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, "and other close family and friends." His rep adds: "The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time."

The CW's Riverdale is currently on hiatus to give the cast and crew ample time to grieve. Perry played Archie Andrews' well-meaning father Fred in the series.
