Luke Evans in Negotiations to Play “The Crow” in Relativity’s Remake

Although it’s had several stumbling blocks along the way, it looks like Relativity Media’s resurrection of “The Crow” may have finally found its leading man. Deadline reports that Luke Evans, the villain in this summer’s “Fast & Furious 6,” is in negotiations for the title role in the remake.

Evans has previously appeared in “Immortals” and “Clash of the Titans,” and is set to appear in “Dracula” and the two planned “The Hobbit” sequels. Previous rumors had put Tom Hiddleston, Alexander Skarsgard and James McAvoy in the role.

Based on James O’Barr’s 1980s comic, the hit 1994 film starred Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, a murdered musician who’s resurrected by supernatural means to exact revenge on those who killed him and his fiancee. Lee died from an accidental gunshot wound on the set of the film. The film did very well, spawning a big-screen sequel, a television series and two direct-to-video movies. O’Barr has recently returned to the character, with IDW publishing new “The Crow” comics.

Relativity has tapped “Before the Fall” director F. Javier Gutierrez to replace Juan Carlos Fresnadillo on the stalled project, which will feature a script from Jesse Wigutow (“It Runs in the Family,” “Irreparable Harm”). Deadline reports that production on the film will begin next year.
