Several celebrities have come out to defend fired Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, and today you can add Marvel's Luke Cage star Mike Colter to that list, as the actor voiced his support for Gunn in a Twitter post on Tuesday.

“Hey James,” said Colter. “I feel like in time they will reinstate you. Fingers crossed. I don’t feel like every past comment from years ago should be grounds for dismissal. Everyone is on notice now. You deserve a fresh start and a clean slate. And i bias bc you make great films.”

Gunn was originally fired from his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 directing duties in July when supporters of United States President Donald Trump unearthed salacious years-old tweets from the director containing jokes about rape and pedophilia. The tweets were swiftly picked up by alt-right conspiracy theorist Mike Cernovich, who mobilized his network of followers to disseminate the tweets far and wide across social media channels and various internet forums.

Colter is the star of the Netflix series Marvel’s Luke Cage, the second season of which was recently posted to the streaming network in its entirety. Colter is just one of many celebrities to weigh in on Gunn’s dismissal since the news broke. Both Michael Rooker and Selma Blair have departed Twitter, the Guardians of the Galaxy cast have penned an open letter condemning Gunn’s firing and Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has deleted roughly 20,000 tweets from his profile. That’s to say nothing of Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista’s pointed criticisms after the firing.

At the time of Gunn’s firing, the director had just submitted an early draft of the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Disney has not yet announced a replacement for the director. A petition to rehire Gunn is currently ongoing with nearly 360,000 users having signed at the time of reporting.
