The following contains major spoilers for Devil's Reign: Omega #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

New York City's new mayor is assembling his own team of Thunderbolts in Marvel's Devil's Reign: Omega #1.

Devil's Reign: Omega #1 features a story, "Cleaning House," from writer Jim Zub, artist Luciano Vecchio, color artists Carlos Lopez and Java Tartaglia and letterer VC's Joe Sabino. In the story, Luke Cage -- the new mayor of New York City following Kingpin's reign -- teams up with Monica Rambeau to take down Fisk's army of Thunderbolts. The two of them crash into a warehouse and make quick work of eliminating the targets, who are being led by Crossbones. Once the damage has been done, a public relations specialist named Helen Astrantia enters and begins looking for a way to spin the story to promote Cage's mayoral position.

"While the legal issues of Wilson Fisk's tenure as mayor work themselves out, I've been tasked with reframing the Thunderbolts brand," Astrantia tells Rambeau. "...Mayor Cage needs to show he's making positive change and the city needs a task force to handle extraordinary criminal activities. Legally, the Thunderbolts are already an authorized arm of the law. We intend for that to continue, only under far better leadership."

Cage and Astrantia offer Rambeau the leadership position; however, she quickly declines the offer. "You know the media is relentless nowadays," Rambeau explains. "I already see how this all goes down. They'll poke and jab, and when I don't play nice, they'll fall back on tired 'angry Black lady' rhetoric." As Rambeau flies away from the scene, Astrantia tells Cage that she'll follow up to see if she changes her mind but, in the meantime, has someone else in mind who could lead the team: Hawkeye/Clint Barton.

Marvel previously announced Hawkeye will lead a new team of Thunderbolts in an upcoming relaunch. The synopsis for Thunderbolts #1, which releases in August, reads, "…LIKE LIGHTNING! Super-powered crooks have taken hostages in Staten Island? A dimensional rift tears open in Chinatown? Monsters running amok at the Met? Call in the THUNDER! New York City’s finest are here to save the day — Hawkeye, Spectrum, America Chavez, Power Man, Persuasion and Gutsen Glory! You know ’em, you love ’em...they’re the Thunderbolts! In the aftermath of Devil’s Reign, the Big Apple has big problems, and it’s up to a new group of Thunderbolts to turn things around. But when Clint Barton gets tasked with heading up this team and proving they can go toe-to-toe with anything the Marvel Universe can throw at them, the first opponent he’s going to have to face is himself."

Devil's Reign: Omega #1 features additional stories from writers Chip Zdarsky and Rodney Barnes, artists Rafael De Latorre and Guillermo Sanna, color artists Federico Blee and Dijjo Lima and letterer VC's Clayton Cowles.
