Fans of Netflix's slate of Marvel television programs may soon get a bit of good news, as the rights to Luke Cage and Iron Fist may revert back to Marvel Studios in October.

Netflix canceled both Luke Cage and Iron Fist a week apart in October 2018. Iron Fist was announced first on Oct. 12, 2018, with Luke Cage following a week later on Oct. 19, 2018. According to various reports, Marvel's canceled Netflix properties included a clause that prevented the characters from appearing in "any non-Netflix series or film for at least two years after cancellation." If this is true, then the middle of October would mark two years since Netflix canceled Luke Cage and Iron Fist, possibly freeing the heroes of both series to be fully reintegrated back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A January rumor suggested Marvel Studios was in the early stages of development on projects involving Netflix's Defenders characters. Speculation suggested Daredevil and Punisher would be the first characters used by Marvel Studios, with Punisher starring in a Midnight Sons team alongside Doctor Strange, Blade, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider and Elsa Bloodstone. Daredevil's two-year window post-cancellation is on Nov. 29, with the Punisher (and Jessica Jones) waiting a bit longer to Feb. 18, 2021.

With the contracts having expired for stars Mike Colter and Finn Jones, it is unknown if Marvel Studios would recast the roles of Luke Cage and Iron Fist, respectively, or negotiate with the actors to return as the heroes. Marvel Television was officially rebranded as Marvel TV Studios at the beginning of the year.

Created and produced by Cheo Hodari Coker, Luke Cage stars Mike Colter, Mahershala Ali, Simone Missick, Theo Rossi, Erik LaRay Harvey, Rosario Dawson, Alfre Woodard, Gabrielle Dennis and Mustafa Shakir. Both seasons are currently streaming on Netflix with Season 1 is available on DVD.

Streaming now on Netflix, Marvel’s Iron Fist stars Finn Jones as Danny Rand, Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Sacha Dhawan as Davos, Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, and Alice Eve as Mary Walker.
