The Mary Sue landed the exclusive that First Second will publish Lucy Knisley's Something New, a graphic novel about the cartoonist's wedding. She's a bit in front of things this time, as the wedding is still three months away, but it sounds like Knisley is going to make it interesting:

Growing up a shy tomboy obsessed with food and comics, weddings were somewhat of an annoyance to me when I worked for my mom’s catering company. I never imagined my own, so when suddenly I’m blissfully engaged to a man I adore, I’m forced to realize that I don’t know a thing about how to go about planning and executing a wedding. But armed with the steely obsessive nature of an artist, betrothed to a logical and practical engineer, and daughter to an ambitious caterer, this wedding is going to be designed, engineered, and catered down to the last detail.

A story about letting go of an ideal, embracing a fantasy, and getting to make a TON of stuff over the course of a year, most of which will only last a day. This is the book I wish I’d had at the start of all this – the hope is that I pass on what I have learned (and am learning) to future clueless (or somewhat less clueless) brides to help them breathe, relax, and laugh throughout their own process.

There's no release date mentioned, but presumably this book won't be on shelves for a while yet. First Second also published Knisley's acclaimed graphic memoir Relish, and Fantagraphics has two of her books in the works, An Age of License, due out later this summer, which chronicles a trip to Europe and a vacation romance, and Displacement, in which she takes her grandparents on a cruise. No one can accuse Knisley of living the unexamined life!
