Next month, Image Comics releases the milestone 100th issue of “The Walking Dead” written by Robert Kirkman with art by Charlie Adlard. Details on the plot of the issue have been incredibly sparse, with only a few “The Walking Dead” #100 variant cover reveals — until today when Image released a mysterious teaser foretelling the coming of a possible new character. With only a black background and the words “Lucille is Coming,” the intriguing image definitely raises more questions than it answers, although hints may be forthcoming in “The Walking Dead” #99, out in stores June 20.
“I can say that everybody knows that there’s this group out there called the Saviors that are kind of intimidating everyone on the Hilltop,” Kirkman said of the 100th issue in May. “They’ve kind of gotten on Rick’s radar, we [saw] their first interaction in #97. We’ve basically got another very violent, dangerous group out there that Rick is going to be clashing with head-on and I can say that issue #100 is going to easily be the most gruesome, most violent, disturbing issue of “The Walking Dead” yet. So, be on the lookout. Yet, when I say that, I do remember all of the gruesome, disturbing and violent things that have happened in “The Walking Dead” thus far, so I promise I mean it.”
The tease of Lucille’s coming follows a number of celebratory initiatives for “The Walking Dead” #100 including Robert Kirkman’s team-up with Hyundai to design a car outfitted for the zombie apocalypse, the Comic-Con International at San Diego 2012 exclusive Michonne action figure and the obstacle survival course “The Walking Dead Escape” that will take place in Petco Park during CCI 2012.
