Since Marvel Studios announced the Fantastic Four would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there has been a lot of speculation but little news concerning casting. Recent rumors suggest at least one role may be close to finding its actor and that actor may just be none other than Lucifer star Tom Ellis.

As reported by Murphy's Multiverse, Deux Moi suggested Tom Ellis is being considered for Reed Richards, actor Maddie Hasson for Sue Storm and Michael Provost for Johnny Storm. It was stated Jason Biggs has auditioned for Ben Grimm, but it is uncertain if he is still in the running for the role. It is worth reiterating that none of this has yet been confirmed.

Ellis played Lucifer Morningstar -- a loose adaptation of the angelic character created by author Neil Gaiman -- across six seasons of the supernatural detective series. The show premiered on Fox and ran for three seasons there before being cancelled. Due to an overwhelming response from fans, encouraged by Ellis, the series was brought back to life by Netflix, where the show continued for a further three seasons and was given a full conclusion.

The MCU's Reed Richards

A variant of Reed Richards has appeared in the MCU. Played by John Krasinski, Richards was introduced in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as a member of the superhero think tank, the Illuminati. Krasinski was a popular fan-casting choice. Director Sam Raimi previously explained, "It's so funny that Kevin cast John [Krasinski] because the fans had a dream of who the perfect Reed Richards would be... And because this is an alternate universe, I think Kevin said, 'Let's make that dream come true.' I've always really enjoyed all of his performances.'"

It's uncertain if this iteration of Mister Fantastic will appear again and Krasinski has been unsurprisingly silent on the matter when asked and even expressed uncertainty himself, explaining that Marvel Studios does not divulge those details.

Fantastic Four was one of several projects hit with delays, alongside Blade, Deadpool 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars. Originally scheduled to premiere on Nov. 8, 2024, Fantastic Four will now hit screens on Feb. 14, 2025. Marvel Studios recently confirmed that WandaVision director Matt Shakman will helm the film and the screenplay will be written by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. The upcoming project is set to begin Phase 6 of the MCU.
