Lucifer has teased Dennis Haysbert's God sticking around on Earth for a while when the supernatural Netflix series returns for the second half of its fifth season.

A recent post by the official Lucifer Twitter account reads, "When could the release date of 5B possibly be? We can't reveal that but what we can reveal: get ready for ***'s extended stay on *****." The account has made numerous posts like this in recent weeks, with asterisks taking the place of certain names. However, it didn't take long for Lucifans to realize that the tweet is most likely meant to say "God's extended stay on Earth."

It would certainly make sense. After all, "Spoiler Alert" -- the eighth episode and mid-season finale of Lucifer Season 5 -- saw God return to Earth for the first time since creating it in order to break up a fight between his sons: Michael, Amenadiel and Lucifer. "Spoiler Alert" marked the Almighty's very first physical appearance in Lucifer, with Haysbert debuting in the role. Now that he's here, it only stands to reason that we'll see more of him moving forward. While God has been mentioned countless times throughout the show's run, his only other "appearance" came in the form of a voice cameo by Sandman and Lucifer co-creator Neil Gaiman back in Season 3.

Other fans have speculated that the tweet may actually be meant to say "Dad's extended stay on Earth," which, of course, would mean the exact same thing. Others have proposed the idea that it could be "Eve's extended stay on Earth." However, it should be noted that Eve has actually been on Earth for quite a while, having embarked on a journey of self-discovery at the end of Season 4. That being said, while Eve was previously confirmed to be returning for Lucifer Season 5, she was not in its first half. So, fans can likely expect the original sinner to return when the show comes back for Season 5B regardless.

Based on the Vertigo/DC Comics character of the same name created by Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg, Lucifer originally premiered on Fox in 2016, with the series being canceled after three seasons. Netflix then revived Lucifer for Season 4, which hit the platform in May of 2019. The show was subsequently renewed for Season 5, which would be split into two eight-episode parts. Season 5A hit Netflix this past August, while Season 5B still lacks a drop date. Season 5 was originally announced as the series' last, though Lucifer was ultimately renewed following continued negotiations, and is now slated to conclude with Season 6.

Lucifer originally aired on Fox, but moved to Netflix after its third season. It stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lauren German as Det. Chloe Decker, D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, Kevin Alejandro as Det. Dan Espinoza, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen Smith and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez. Season 5, Part 1 is available on Netflix now.
