Lucifer actor Lesley-Ann Brandt recently celebrated Mazikeen's co-creator on social media.

"Forever grateful to @neilhimself for creating her," the actor wrote on Twitter. "Mazikeen of the Lilim." To which Neil Gaiman, The Sandman author, replied, "You killed it and crushed the role and embodied her gloriously." He added, "I'm grateful."

Mazikeen first appeared in The Sandman #22 as a child of Lilith, and leader of Lilim -- a group of exiled demons who are descendants of Lilith. Neil Gaiman and artist Kelley Jones created the Mazikeen character. Maze and her devotion to Lucifer inspired a Fox/Netflix series, Lucifer, to follow their journeys from Hell to L.A., solving crimes amongst humans. Lesley-Ann Brandt has portrayed the warrior demon in all five seasons of the hit supernatural series. All five seasons of Lucifer are now streaming on Netflix.

Recently, Gaiman spoke out about how The Sandman series will exist in a separate universe from the television series Lucifer. Gaiman wrote on his Tumblr, "The theology and cosmogony of Lucifer is a long way from Sandman's. It’s inspired by Sandman, but you can’t easily retrofit the Lucifer version to get back to Sandman if you see what I mean."

Gaiman also confirmed that the upcoming Netflix series will delve deeper and closer into the DC Comics/Vertigo series. "It seemed easier and more fun to have the Sandman version of Lucifer be, well, much closer to the Sandman version of Lucifer," he said.

Netflix recently announced casting for The Sandman series, naming Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, Boyd Holbrook as The Corinthian, Charles Dance as Roderick Burgess, Asim Chaudhry as Abel and Sanjeev Bhaskar as Cain.
