Lucifer actor Lesley-Ann Brandt recently teamed up with PETA in hopes of encouraging fans and fellow moms to stop visiting petting zoos with wild animals, like the ones featured in Netflix's hit Tiger King series.

The actor appears in a new public service announcement posted on the PETA YouTube page, which was filmed at California's Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries-accredited Lions Tigers & Bears animal sanctuary. In addition to providing animals with lifetime care, the sanctuary doesn't breed, buy, sell or allow public encounters with the animals.

"As a mother, my worst nightmare is that I will outlive my son or that my baby would be taken from me," Brandt says in the spot. "That's why I'm here to ask you, mother to mother, to never support cub-petting. Just like us, they love their babies. They want to raise them. And their babies want and need that, too."

The actor further explains that vulnerable cubs are often terrified when passed around by humans during photo ops and public encounters and that mothers are left devastated when their cubs are taken away. Brandt also notes that young cubs are regularly killed or sent to barbaric roadside zoos when they become too big for interactions with the public.

"Please, let's stand up for our fellow mothers and help end this abuse," the South African native concludes. "Never participate in photo ops with wild animals, and never visit a roadside zoo."

Brandt is best known for her portrayal of Mazikeen in Lucifer, which ended earlier this year after six seasons. Back in March, Brandt posted a selfie of herself on the show's set and revealed it was her last day of shooting with Lucifer actor Tom Ellis. "Last Mazikeen and Lucifer scene ever. So many feels. Let's do this," she captioned the shot. Later that day, Brandt added, "What a scene. What a day. Thank you [Tom Ellis] for everything during action and cut and everything after as well. Forever, Your Mazikeen."

PETA has a history of calling out Hollywood over ethical concerns involving live animals. In addition to demanding Disney endorse a pro-adoption message following the release of Cruella earlier this year, the animal rights organization asked the City of Los Angeles to open an investigation into the treatment of animals on the set of Jackass Forever in July.

Brandt joins a growing list of celebrity PETA ambassadors that also includes Michael Keaton, Joaquin Phoenix, Katee Sackhoff, Tricia Helfer, and Krysten Ritter.
