The number of the beast is 666.Netflix's Vertigo Comics adaptation Lucifer has officially begun production on its upcoming sixth and final season. This news comes courtesy of co-showrunner Joe Henderson, who made the announcement in a post to Twitter. "Today is our first day of shooting Lucifer Season 6!" Henderson wrote. "So happy we've finished up Season 5, and we will be working our buns off to get it finished and to Netflix! Thanks to our incredible cast and crew for working hard and safe and delivering a kickass finale!"RELATED: Lucifer: Details Surface for Scott Porter's Mystery Character

Based on the Sandman Universe character of the same name created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg, Lucifer originally premiered on Fox in 2016, with the series initially being canceled after three seasons. Netflix then revived Lucifer for Season 4 in 2019, subsequently renewing it for Season 5, which was announced as the show's last. Following additional negotiations, however, Lucifer was extended, and is now slated to conclude with Season 6.

Lucifer Season 5 has been split into two parts, with its first half dropping on Netflix back in August. Season 5, Part 2 still lacks an official premiere date, as does Season 6. It recently came to light that Lucifer was actually in the middle of filming its Season 5 finale when production was halted as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic earlier this year. The cast and crew returned to finish up Season 5 back in September, with reports indicating that production on Season 6 would begin immediately after, which has now come to pass.
