The number of the beast is... 10.
The sixth and final season of Netflix's supernatural DC/Vertigo series Lucifer will run for a total of 10 episodes, co-showrunner Joe Henderson has confirmed. "It is 10 [episodes] for our final season," Henderson said during a video interview with wordballoon.
In response to a question from a live viewer, Henderson also revealed that the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation will not prevent kissing from taking place on-screen in Lucifer Season 6. "And by the way... there will still be kisses in Season 6. Don't you worry," he said. "Early on, we were actually kind of worried about it. We weren't sure what we'd be able to do. But as we have figured out what COVID is and how to keep our cast safe while still doing things, oh we got some kissing. So, worry not."
At 10 episodes, Lucifer Season 6 will be equal in length to Season 4, which was the show's first season to premiere on Netflix after it was initially canceled by Fox after three seasons. Lucifer Seasons 1, 2 and 3 ran for 13 episodes, 18 episodes and 26 episodes, respectively. Meanwhile, Season 5 is 16 episodes long and has been split into two equal parts. Season 5A premiered back in August 2020, with Season 5B set to arrive late next month on May 28.
Lucifer Season 5 was originally announced as the show's last, though it was renewed for Season 6 following continued negotiations. The final season -- which will bring the series to a total of 93 episodes -- wrapped production on Monday, March 29, leading the hashtag #ThankYouLucifer to trend on Twitter.
Lucifer stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lauren German as Det. Chloe Decker, D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, Kevin Alejandro as Det. Dan Espinoza, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen Smith and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez. Season 5B arrives on Netflix May 28.
