Lucifer co-showrunner Joe Henderson recently revealed that the series' upcoming musical episode will feature a setlist of all cover songs.

"We're doing covers... I don't know what kind of insane people write songs," Henderson said on the Word Balloon podcast. Henderson added, however, that his fellow co-showrunner Ildy Modrovich "could actually write songs."

"Ildy was in a band," Henderson continued. "Ildy wrote the episode, and one of the things she did so well is everyone is singing something so different." He added, "It's the most rewatchable episode we've ever done because each musical number is just a different flavor, a different thing, in the best way possible. It's just awesome."

Henderson also revealed that he has no intentions of trying his hand at songwriting, explaining, "I could never write a song, which is also why whenever people asked me to do a musical episode, I was like, 'Ildy can! Not me.'"

"But man, it is one of my favorite episodes," he noted. "What I love about our show is that there are episodes that some of us couldn't do, but would also love to do and then find a way to do." He concluded, "That's an episode that I could never write — or at least one I couldn't write as well as lldy did."

It was confirmed in January that the second half of Lucifer's fifth season will feature a musical episode titled "Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam." At that time, Modrovich explained, "We wanted to have a real grounded story reason why they’re signing and dancing, and not just, ‘Oh, this is going to be the one where everybody sings and dance."

A fan also recently posted a behind-the-scenes clip from what appeared to be the set of the musical episode online. In the clip, stars Tom Ellis and Lauren German appeared to be filming a musical sequence on a football field while backed by a high school marching band, cheerleaders and football players. "Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam" will reportedly air as Season 5, Episode 9, while Season 5B will also include a noir-themed episode featuring a handful of musical numbers.

Lucifer stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lauren German as Det. Chloe Decker, D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, Kevin Alejandro as Det. Dan Espinoza, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen Smith and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez. Season 5B arrives on Netflix May 28.
