Lucifer actor Kevin Alejandro, who portrays LAPD Homicide Detective Dan Espinoza, will direct the penultimate episode of the series.
Series writer Chris Rafferty confirmed the news on Twitter, writing, "Due to the pandemic, #Lucifer Season 6 has had its share of scheduling changes, and sadly I’ll miss working w/ S5 finale director Karen Gaviola. But I am SUPER EXCITED to announce our new director for 609... @kevinmalejandro!"
He ended the tweet with the message, "Team #SpoilerAlert together again!!!" Fans will recall that "Spoiler Alert" was the name of Season 5's eighth episode, which was also written by Rafferty and directed by Alejandro. "Spoiler Alert" served as the finale for the first half of Season 5, which premiered in August 2020.
Along with the note, Rafferty also shared an image of the script for Season 6, Episode 9, which shows the episode title to be "Goodbye, Lucifer" and credited Alejandro as the director.
While Netflix has yet to reveal when the second half of Season 5 will premiere, it was recently confirmed that the second half of the season will feature a musical episode titled "Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam." Unlike the noir episode in the first half of the season, this special episode will be formatted as an actual musical. The first sneak peek of "Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam" debuted at DC Fandome in September.
At the end of the first part of Season 5, God (Dennis Haysbert) arrived on Earth to address his relationships with sons Lucifer and Amenadiel. Showrunner Joe Henderson recently spoke to CBR about the decision to cast Haysbert as God, saying, "So much of Lucifer's relationship with God is about this distance. What was interesting is casting someone who had that inherent warmth, plays against the type you'd expect, but also leans into sort of the fatherly energy that he gives."
Lucifer's showrunners also recently revealed that a fan-favorite character will return in the second half of Season 5. While speaking to TVLine, Henderson and co-showrunner Ildy Modrovich confirmed that Scarlett Estevez will reprise her role as Chloe's daughter in the next batch of episodes. She is also set to appear in Season 6.

Dan Espinoza, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen Smith and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez. The first half of Season 5 is now streaming on Netflix.
