Following news that the cast and crew of Lucifer recently wrapped filming on the sixth and final season, co-showrunner Joe Henderson shared details about the final day on set.

"Hard. Beautiful. Bittersweet," Henderson told Word Balloon when asked how he would describe being on the show's set for the last time ever. "Very, very, very emotional."

Henderson added, however, that the final day was actually a bit funny "because it was very sad but also it wasn't." He explained, "Because we ended on our terms. We ended with a story we wanted to end with, and we ended with the family that we started with and that was a truly incredible day."

Henderson also joked that several members of the cast and crew looked at each other on the final day and asked, "'Should we be sadder?' We're sad. But, we're really, really happy also with what we were able to do," he concluded. "But yeah, we cried. We cried a lot, a lot."

Henderson's comments came just days after fans of Lucifer got the hashtag "#ThankYouLucifer" trending on Twitter March 29, when it was confirmed that the hit series has wrapped filming the final episodes. Henderson responded by tweeting a fond message to his followers, writing, "We have the best fans!!! Last day of shooting #Lucifer, and what a wonderful sendoff from the Lucifans." Henderson also recently celebrated the table read for the series finale by posting a throwback photo from the first-ever table read for Lucifer.

While Netflix has yet to announced a premiere date for Lucifer's final season, the platform recently confirmed the second half of Season 5 will arrive on May 28. While few details have been revealed about the plot of the new episodes, Henderson previously teased that Lucifer's relationship with his dad, God, will play an important role.

"So much of Lucifer's relationship with God is about this distance," Henderson said about introducing Dennis Haysbert's portrayal of God to the show. "What was interesting is casting someone who had that inherent warmth, plays against the type you'd expect, but also leans into sort of the fatherly energy that he gives... And it opens up Lucifer in ways he has chosen to close off previously as the 'wayward son.'"

Lucifer stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lauren German as Det. Chloe Decker, D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, Kevin Alejandro as Det. Dan Espinoza, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen Smith and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez. The first half of Season 5 is now streaming on Netflix.
