Because of coronavirus (COVID-19), filming the series finale of the hit show Lucifer had to be done differently.
Lucifer co-showrunner Joe Henderson was asked during an interview with Wordballon if Lucifer's storyline was changed at all because of the ongoing pandemic. His answer was "yes," but at the same time, "no." The cast and crew were aware of what they were getting themselves into and already knew the story they wanted to tell around the current situation. Knowing that the pandemic would limit them, Henerson said "a big part of it became how do we write towards our limitations and create strength out of that."
In order to create strength out of their limitations, more effort was put it into writing character-driven scenes -- which fans can expect to see in lieu of difficult-to-film action-packed moments -- that bring much more emotion into the series. Though some things had to be different, Henderson seemed enthusiastic about the changes. "It forced us as writers to dig deeper into the dynamics between the characters," he said. "It also allowed us to show off just how damn good our cast is, so it affected a lot, but it's the exact same story we wanted to tell."
Lucifer stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lauren German as Det. Chloe Decker, D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, Kevin Alejandro as Det. Dan Espinoza, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen Smith and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez. Season 5B arrives on Netflix May 28.
