'Lucifer' cover artist Christopher Moeller wins Spectrum Award

Pittsburgh, PA - February 24, 2003 - Christopher Moeller received an Award for special achievement in the tenth annual Spectrum Competition, held in Kansas City, KS last week. The award-winning painting, chosen from among 3500 entries, was one of fourteen to receive an award this year. The image originally appeared on the cover of Vertigo comic book Lucifer #28. The painting will be showcased in Spectrum 10: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic art, published by Underwood Books in October 2003.

Christopher Moeller is a writer and painter, who has been working in the comics industry since 1990. His original artwork is included in collections worldwide, including the Library of Congress. His comics have been translated into German, French, Spanish and Italian. Moeller is perhaps best known as the creator of the Iron Empires series of science fiction graphic novels: Faith Conquers (1994) and Sheva's War (1998). Moeller's most recent graphic novel was JLA: A League of One released in 2000 by DC Comics. Moeller is currently the regular cover artist for Vertigo's Lucifer line of comics, and is working on another painted JLA graphic novel entitled JLA: Cold Steel, due to be released in 2004.

In addition to comics work, Moeller is a well-known contributor to Wizard of the Coast's collectible card game Magic: the Gathering and the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. He has created hundreds of paintings for posters, magazines, paperback and hardcover books, games, trading cards, and advertising
