WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Lucifer's Season 5B, streaming now on Netflix.

The first half of Lucifer's Season 5, which released on Netflix last year, ended with a cliffhanger of epic proportions: while Michael, Amenadiel, Michael and Maze fought inside the police precinct, God finally made his long-awaited debut, joining the series by interrupting the fight between his children. Now, nine months later, Season 5B has finally arrived, and it picks up right where the first half left off.

Living up to the promise of its cliffhanger, God indeed becomes the latest addition to the cast for most of Season 5's second half. The Father of All Creation's story on Lucifer takes some unexpected turns, the least of which being that it all ends with the surprise return of one of the series' most important villains: Tricia Helfer's Goddess of All Creation.

The Goddess of All Creation was the main villain in Lucifer's second season. Her story was a long and complicated one -- it stretched, after all, to the very beginnings of the universe. The Goddess was God's wife, and they lived happily for a very long time as mother and father to their children, the Angels. However, once God created humanity, a rift formed between him and his wife. As he grew fascinated with humans, God neglected the rest of this family -- something that resulted in Lucifer's rebellion and subsequent banishment to Hell. But Lucifer wasn't alone -- God's wife was also cast down into Hell after she became a threat to humanity.

Shortly after Lucifer started working for the LAPD, Goddess escaped Hell and found herself in Los Angeles. She still hated humans, and she proved to be incredibly dangerous. But more importantly, Goddess was misunderstood. Ultimately, all she wanted was a chance to start over, which Lucifer gave her. Using the flaming sword of Azrael, Lucifer sliced through reality itself, allowing Goddess to travel to the Void. There, she was able to use her powers to create a universe for herself, one where she would be the one who ruled.

However, while fans were under the impression that the Goddess couldn't travel between these two universes, Season 5B reveals that isn't the case. Now that God is contemplating retirement, Lucifer spends a great deal of time trying to find the perfect retirement plan for his father, until he realizes there is only one happy ending for him: reuniting with his estranged wife. To do so, Lucifer enlists the help of his sister Gabriel, the Angel of Messages, whose power allows her to deliver a message to the Goddess of Creation across universes.

Using all of her powers, Goddess makes one trip back. The return of Lucifer's mother comes as a total surprise, albeit one that is totally welcome due to its heartwarming nature. When she appears, Goddess is now at peace, and her very presence instills love, tranquility and hope. Thankfully, God and Goddess rapidly put their issues aside and agree to pick up where they left off -- only in her universe.

Once the decision is made, God and Goddess bid Lucifer and Amenadiel farewell in a tearful goodbye that is packed with emotion. While the Goddess' return is brief, it allows for the series to finally deliver something fans have been waiting a long time to see: Lucifer's family reunited. It's a beautiful scene that perfectly pays off years of buildup and gives God and Goddess their own happily ever after.

Lucifer stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lauren German as Det. Chloe Decker, D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, Kevin Alejandro as Det. Dan Espinoza, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen Smith and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez. Season 5B is now on Netflix.
