Lucifer's Season 5a finale saw both Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) teaming up against their angelic brother, Michael (Tom Ellis), fearing he was planning to hurt Amenadiel's son, Charlie. The LAPD office shook with broken glass as the angels fought until Dear Old Dad -- aka God (Dennis Haysbert)-- arrived, declaring his sons to stop.

During an interview with CBR to discuss his upcoming comic series ShadecraftLucifer's co-showrunner Joe Henderson discussed how God's arrival isn't received similarly by Lucifer and his older brother. The pair come to "wildly different perspectives on the arrival of their father."

When asked if Amenadiel's new role as a father would change his perspective on his, Henderson said, "Yes! That's such a big part of Season 5, particularly with Amenadiel, who is dealing with all of those issues of fatherhood."

The co-showrunner added, "Dealing with both loving a child but also being afraid for a child, and really positioning him to have a parallel to God, so that Amenadiel and Lucifer could arrive at wildly different perspectives on the arrival of their father."

Henderson hinted that most of Season 5b's arc for Amenadiel revolves around this core issue of what fatherhood means. "In 5b, a lot of Amenadiel's arc is looking at his father from an entirely new perspective, as a fellow father. What would he do similarly? Differently? What did he wish his father did for him? And what are the things that in seeing his own father he realizes he needed to do to him at that time?"

D.B. Woodside and Dennis Haysbert previously worked together on 24, which Henderson cited when revealing how "incredible" the two are together in a scene. "Some of my favorite scenes in 5b are with God and Amenadiel," he confessed. "What's great is D.B. and Dennis have this incredible shorthand from being on 24 together, as brothers in that case, but there's an intimacy that you'll see on the screen that comes off really well."

Lucifer stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lauren German as Det. Chloe Decker, D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, Kevin Alejandro as Det. Dan Espinoza, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen Smith and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez. The first half of Season 5 is now streaming on Netflix.
