Michael Imperioli has joined the side of the angels. According to Deadline, "The Sopranos" star will appear in a recurring role on "Lucifer" Season 2 as Uriel, the brother of Lucifer and Amenadiel.

Part comedy-drama, part supernatural police procedural, the TV series centers on Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), who -- after becoming bored with his duties as Lord of Hell -- relinquishes his throne and opens a piano bar in Los Angeles. There, he gets his kicks helping the LAPD find and punish criminals.

Season 2 will introduce Lucifer's mother (Tricia Helfer), who -- according to her official character description -- "is fearless and has a strong conviction for who she is and what she deserves." The highlight reel released at Comic-Con International also builds suspense for the debut of the character, who it sounds like we should be very afraid of.

In addition to "The Sopranos," Imperioli has appeared in "Goodfellas" and "The Lovely Bones." His past credits also include "Life on Mars," "Detroit 1-8-7," "Californication" and "Mad Dogs."

"Lucifer" returns for its second season Monday, Sept. 19, on Fox.
