The massive domestic opening weekend of Avengers: Infinity War broke the record set in 2015 by Star Wars: The Force Awakens on its way to taking the global crown. Now Lucasfilm has congratulated corporate sibling Marvel Studios with a symbolic passing of the lightsaber.

The Star Wars Twitter account posted an image showing Rey (Daisy Ridley) handing a lightsaber, rather than the torch, to Iron Man. "From a galaxy far, far away... to Earth's mightiest heroes," the image reads. "Congratulations on the biggest opening weekend in history!" The note is signed by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy on behalf of the studio.

After exceeding all expectations, Infinity War earned the biggest domestic opening of all time, beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens' $248 million by $10 million. Worldwide, the film has already amassed an astounding $640 million. It should cross $300 million domestically by mid-week, and top $700 million at the global box office by the weekend. All of this is without the help of China, where the film premieres in mid-May.

The congratulations from Lucasfilm comes hours after Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige released thank-you note to fans in celebration of Infinity War's success. As word of mouth continues to propel the film, it's safe to presume Infinity War will break more records in the coming weeks. Disney now claims the three biggest domestic openings ever, with Avengers: Infinity War, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
