The latest trailer for Disney and Pixar's Luca features more of the film's plot, as well as the trademark humor and heart that Pixar is known for.

Luca focuses on its titular character, who is an amphibious sea creature nervous to venture into the surface world. Egged on by his friend, the equally amphibious Alberto, Luca disguises himself as a human and visits a small Italian village. There he befriends a girl named Giulia while learning to embrace life above water.

Luca is directed by Enrico Casarosa, who previously helmed the Pixar short film La Luna. "I was born in Genoa, and my summers were spent on beaches," Casarosa said while discussing the genesis of Luca, also confirming that Hayao Miyazaki's work helped shape the direction of his film. "I met my best friend when I was 11. I was really shy and I found this troublemaker of a kid who had a completely different life. I wanted to make a movie about those kinds of friendships that help you grow up."

Luca will debut on Disney+ in June, making it the fourth animated feature from Disney to do so. Earlier this year, Raya and the Last Dragon was available for Premier Access on Disney+, Soul debuted on the streamer last Christmas due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and Onward was also moved to Disney+ due to the pandemic.

Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, Disney and Pixar’s original feature film “Luca” is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface.

Directed by Enrico Casarosa, Luca stars Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer, Emma Berman, Maya Rudolph, Marco Barricelli and Jim Gaffigan. The film premieres on Disney+ on Friday, June 18.
