Luc Besson's 'Artificial Intelligence' Gets Put Pilot Order From TNT

"Entertainment Weekly" has learned that TNT has ordered "Artificial Intelligence" to pilot. The project comes from "Fifth Element" and "Lucy" director Luc Besson and snagged a put pilot commitment from the network, meaning that TNT will face a stiff penalty if they choose to not air the pilot.

The sci-fi series follows an artificial intelligence that breaks out of a laboratory in order to embark on its own personal, mysterious quest. The A.I.'s creator then gathers a team of specialists to handle the situation.

Besson is co-writing and executive producing the pilot with screenwriter Bill Wheeler. EW notes that this is the first project Besson has written for the United States, and could also be the first American television show he directs should he take on that job as well. Matthew Gross, Edouard de Vesinne and Thomas Anargyros will also serve as executive producers.
