MGM's Tomb Raider sequel has signed Misha Green to write and direct, with Alicia Vikander reprising her role as treasure hunter Lara Croft.

Graham King will produce the film under his GK Films banner, alongside The Cantillon Company's Elizabeth Campion. This marks Green's big-screen directorial debut. Green is the showrunner of the HBO series Lovecraft Country, which is based on the novel of the same name by Matt Ruff. She also co-created and served as executive producer on the WGN series Underground, which centered around the Underground Railroad. Green's other film projects include the upcoming Netflix film The Mother, along with Cleopatra Jones for Warner Bros.

The first Tomb Raider film was directed by Roar Uthaug and is based on Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics' reboot of the gaming franchise. Ben Wheatley was tapped to helm the Tomb Raider sequel last year. However, MGM chose to delay Tomb Raider 2 indefinitely due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Rumors have pointed to the game taking inspiration from Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the third game in the reboot series.

Written and directed by Misha Green, Tomb Raider 2 stars Alicia Vikander. The film currently has no release date.
