Love, Death + Robots Volume 3 will feature a sequel to the Volume 1 episode, "Three Robots."

Series creator Tim Miller and supervising director Jennifer Yuh Nelson announced the "Three Robots" sequel during a live Reddit AMA where multiple users asked whether Love, Death + Robots would revisit any stories from previous seasons in Volume 3. This was the only "Easter egg" for Volume 3 they were allowed to give out during the AMA.

"Some characters are coming back. Three of them, three characters. Three robots are actually returning for a sequel," said Nelson. The timestamp for this reveal occurs at 14:45 in the AMA.

"Three Robots" was based on a short story by John Scalzi about a group of robots visiting Earth and trying to learn about the extinct human race from the wreckages of civilization. It was one of three Scalzi adaptations in Volume 1, the others being "The Day the Yogurt Took Over" and "Alternate Histories." Scalzi will be writing the "Three Robots" sequel short for Volume 3; he also co-wrote the script for the Volume 2 episode "Automated Customer Service" based on another of his short stories.

Miller said during the AMA, "We enjoyed working with [Scalzi] so much and those stories were so popular... I don't know if there's an accurate judge of popularity, but 'Zima Blue' and 'Three Robots' and 'The Witness' were pretty regularly listed as favorites, and 'Three Robots' because it's so fucking funny." Nelson described Scalzi as "an excellent guy to have lunch with" who "tells the best stories."

Love, Death + Robots Vol. 2 is now streaming on Netflix. Vol. 3 will be released in 2022.
