Prime Video has announced the full slate of directors for Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Three directors, Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri, and Louise Hooper, have been confirmed for the second season of The Rings of Power and each will helm multiple episodes in the next installment. Brändström returns to the Prime Video series after helming two episodes from Season 1: Episode 6, "Udûn" and Episode 7, "The Eye." She will be directing four episodes and will also serve as a co-executive producer. Hamri and Hooper, who have overall deals with Amazon Studios, will each direct two episodes.

Brändström, an award-winning director, recently completed a pilot for Netflix Sweden titled The Unlikely Murder, though her directorial credits include HBO's The Outsider, Jupiter’s Legacy, The Witcher, and Away for Netflix; Prime Video's The Man in the High Castle, and Outlander and Counterpart for Starz.

As for Hamri, she recently completed her work as an executive producer and director for Season 2 of Prime Video's The Wheel of Time. She previously worked on Fox's Empire, but her other television credits include Shameless, Rectify, Nashville,

Elementary, Glee and Desperate Housewives. Hamri has also worked with musicians including Prince, Rhianna, Jay Z and Mary J. Blige, among others, and directed 2008's The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 2. Hooper, meanwhile, is known for the limited drama series Flesh and Blood and Cheat, but has also directed the Season 1 finale of Netflix's The Sandman. Hooper's work also includes episodes of The Witcher, Inside No. 9, and Treason.

Rings of Power Season 2 Adds New Cast Members

Prime Video has announced the addition of several new cast members to Season 2, recently announcing eight more series regulars, many of whom have worked on shows like The Witcher, The Sandman and Doctor Who, among others. While the announced actors will appear in the fantasy series in recurring roles, the details of their characters have not yet been revealed.

The Rings of Power's Growing Ensemble Cast

The Rings of Power boasts a massive cast featuring a variety of original characters but also follows younger versions of Galadriel, Elrond and Isildur, portrayed by Morfydd Clark, Robert Aramayo and Maxim Baldry, respectively. While The Rings of Power will see the return of most of Season 1's cast, it was announced that Joseph Mawle would not be returning as Adar for the second season. Instead, the role has been recast with The Last Duel's Sam Hazeldine stepping into the role as the Orc leader. A reason for Mawle's recasting has not been provided at the time of writing.

Based on the characters and world built by JRR Tolkein, The Rings of Power is intended to be a 50-hour, five-season series set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before the events of Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Season 1 was the most expensive show yet for Amazon's Prime Video, reportedly costing the streamer $465 million. While the first season was filmed mostly in New Zealand, Season 2 is currently filming in the United Kingdom.

Season 1 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is now available to stream in full on Prime Video. Season 2 does not yet have a release date.
