A deleted The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power scene showed Prince Durin IV giving Elrond a precious ore that would help save his people, according to Durin actor Owain Arthur.

In an interview with TVLine, Arthur explained that, in the scrapped scene, "I hand [the ore] to him quickly without my father knowing, so that there is a glimmer of hope for Middle-earth." The actor added, "I like that Durin still went against his father for his friend. He followed his heart [and] did what he thought he needed to do." He also noted that this gesture strengthened Durin and Elrond's friendship. "We had a little bit of a tiff at the beginning," he explained, "but that made us even stronger…. and we’ve recovered from that. " He added, "The fact that Elrond is now banished from Khazad-dûm doesn’t mean that I’m held captive in Khazad-dûm, so I think he will be able to go and see him at some point."

The Rings of Power Will Return Even Bigger in Season 2

Fans may not have to wait too long before finding out what the future holds for Durin and Elrond's friendship, as Season 2 of The Rings of Power is currently filming in England. And if showrunner Patrick McKay's words are anything to go by, that's just one of the many things that audiences have to look forward to. McKay teased that the new episodes will be "bigger and better" on "every level... by an order of magnitude."

Part of this may have to do with the fact that Sauron's true identity is finally out in the open. The Rings of Power executive producer Lindsey Weber noted that this will change things in Season 2, revealing that what comes next is bound to be "grittier, more intense, maybe a little scarier."

An increase in scariness isn't the only way that The Rings of Power is poised to change for its second season. Recent reports revealed that eight new characters have been added to the cast in recurring roles. While specifics of the characters are still unknown, the new actors include Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Stuart Bowman, Gavi Singh Chera, William Chubb, Kevin Eldon, Will Keen, Selina Lo and Calam Lynch.

Season 1 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
