In J.R.R Tolkien's world, not all creatures live as brief a life as Man. Dwarves live twice as long and elves are virtually immortal, which is why some fans expect to see a few familiar faces in the upcoming Lord of the Rings series on Amazon Prime, despite the fact it will take place long before the events of Peter Jackson's trilogy.

At a Television Critics Association panel, Orlando Bloom was asked whether or not he would appear in the upcoming series. Bloom, who played the Sindarin elf Legolas in both the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, began by clarifying, "I don't know how they're going to approach it. I haven't had any conversations about that."

"I like to think of myself as ageless but I don’t know where I would fit into that world," he continued. He then mentioned that, if Amazon is looking to explore the Second Age, the studio is likely to go in a different direction. "I think you're saying there's Legolas, they probably got a 19-year-old kid ready to go."

Given the substantial budget of approximately $1 billion allotted to the series, it would be entirely possible for Bloom to return as a younger Legolas with the aid of digital de-aging, which films have already been using for several years. That being said, just because it is within the realm of possibility, that doesn't mean the studio will choose to go in that direction. At the time of writing, it seems as though Bloom will not be involved.

Thus far, only one casting decision has been revealed -- Markella Kavenagh as a series regular named Tyra -- and that information was leaked. It's likely that we won't know whether or not Legolas will make and appearance or who will play him until the series is closer to air. There has been no announced release date for the series.
