Prime Video's massive The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series recently saw the release of a number of stills featuring a few of the characters set to appear. While the features of many a familiar character could be seen, one still presented audiences with a first look at the show's first new character.

A still released by Vanity Fair showcased actor Charlie Vickers as Halbrand, a new character described as being a fugitive fleeing from his mysterious past. His path crosses that of Galadriel when the elven royal encounters him on a ship as a stowaway.

While the exact details of Halbrand's role are as yet unknown, he will surely play a vital part in Prime Video's epic series, set a thousand years before the events depicted in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films, though it's worth noting that the Prime Video series and the films are in not intended to be connected in their depictions of Middle-Earth.

The Rings of Power will span the entire period of Middle-Earth's history known as the Second Age. The recently released synopsis teases the rise of powerful forces and the fall of once-great kingdoms. The description also teased the appearance of a number of major locations from across author J.R.R Tolkien's genre-defining fantasy world.

Some of the more familiar characters set to appear are, as mentioned, Galadriel, played by Morfydd Clark; Robert Aramayo's Elrond, Owain Arthur, playing the Dwarven Prince Durin IV; and Dwarven princess Disa, played by Sophia Nomvete. Each appeared in the recently released stills, featuring behind-the-scenes shots and exciting moments from across the series.

It's unknown exactly how much Amazon Studios is spending on the Lord of the Rings series, which is already producing a second season. It was initially reported that the show would have a budget of approximately $500 million per season, before being reported that $465 million was allocated to Season 1. This figure was seemingly debunked by former Amazon Studios Head of Scripted Programming Sharon Tal Yguado, who did not provide an accurate number.

A teaser clip released on social media announced the coming arrive of the series' first official trailer. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will get its first trailer on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 13.

Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to premiere on Sept. 2.
