Former Lord of the Rings actor Liv Tyler revealed that she tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) on New Year's Day.

Tyler revealed her diagnosis on Instagram, calling the experience "terrifying." She wrote in her caption, "It comes on fast, like a locomotive...With it Feelings of fear, shame and guilt swirling through you, who could you have gotten it from and who could you have infected...Terrifying."

She further explained the effect the virus had on her body, leaving her bedridden and isolated for 10 days, despite taking precautions like social distancing and isolating with her family. "It F's with your body and mind equally. Every day different. Being isolated in a room alone for 10 days is trippy, to say the least," the actor said.

Tyler wanted to share information about COVID-19, but also share her experience hoping to connect to others struggling with the virus. "We are all connected through this experience," Tyler said. "I am humbled and filled with gratitude. to be well, a gift and beaming love and light to all those who have left this world because of this virus and those who are suffering."

COVID-19 has ravaged the entertainment industry, with many shows and films halting production due to positive diagnoses. Production for The Batman resumed in September after a shutdown due to lead actor Robert Pattinson testing positive for COVID-19. Season 2 of The Witcher also shut down production due to several positive test results. Amazon's Lord of the Rings show also halted filming due to COVID-19, with one of its stars, Morfydd Clark, noting that audiences may be able to tell what was filmed pre- and post-shutdown.
