Lord of the Rings fans who were hoping to chase after their "Precious" will have to wait longer than they initially thought.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which is being developed and published by Daedelic Entertainment and NACON, will now release in 2022. It was originally supposed to hit shelves in 2021.

The game is expected to follow the character sometime after he acquires the One Ring of Power but before the events of the Lord of the Rings films. Daedelic Entertainment reached a licensing agreement with the Tolkien Estate to develop the Gollum-centric game after four years of negotiation. The game studio agreed to create a more story-oriented adaptation than previous combat-based Lord of the Rings games.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a story-driven action adventure. Take on a perilous journey as Gollum, chasing the only thing that is precious to him. Climb, leap and sneak your way past dangers or into advantageous spots. Gollum is skillful and sly, but also torn by his split personality. It is up to you to decide whether the darker side of Gollum takes over or if there is a spark of reason left in what once was Sméagol.

Developed and published by Daedelic Entertainment and NACON, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2022.
