Elijah Wood wants to join another fantasy franchise.

During an interview with ET Online, the actor, who starred as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, expressed interest in joining the Star Wars universe in a live-action capacity. "I think that's just inherently fun," he said. "I haven't had a chance to play in a giant sandbox in a while…Star Wars gets precedent because I'm a huge Star Wars fan. So more of that, certainly in the live-action sphere, would be awesome."

However, Star Wars isn't the only franchise Wood is interested in joining. "But working on a Marvel film, I mean, there's obviously a whole conversation that happens certainly in film Twitter about sort of the cinematic relevance of Marvel," he said. "Is it cinema? All this sort of sh*t. And whether you like superhero movies or not, they are inherently fun. And those movies are extremely well made. I think getting to play again in that universe's sandbox would be a blast. It'd be totally awesome because it's at such an insane scale."

Wood, who is currently starring in the crime drama No Man of God, voices the racer Jace Rucklin in the animated series, Star Wars the Resistance, which began airing in 2018. The first two seasons are currently available on Disney+.

While it is unclear if Wood will appear as a racer in a future live-action Star Wars project, or as a superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he is currently set to star in Legendary's Toxic Avenger, a superhero comedy film starring Peter Dinklage and Jacob Tremblay. Wood has reportedly been cast as the main villain, Bob Garbinger, the "evil head of the shady company Garb X." The film does not yet have a release date.

Wood's desire to return to a franchise like Star Wars or the MCU comes nearly 20 years after he starred as Frodo Baggins in The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001. Wood briefly reprised his role for cameos in The Hobbit prequels; however, he is not set to appear in Amazon Studio's upcoming The Lord of the Rings series, which takes place in the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
